In the days leading up to her passing in 2022, the City of Chicago launched a campaign to honor Merri Dee for Women's History Month.

 

Her photo and accomplishments were featured on outdoor billboards, furniture, and digital displays throughout the city. The photo at the top of this page, was her last photo shoot, taken at her home just weeks before the campaign launched by Chicago mayoral photographer Heidi Zeiger, captures her loving spirit and determination.

One year later, in 2023, the City of Chicago included Merri Dee in its annual Women's History Month mural.  For those of us who called her Mom, Gammie, Sister, Auntie, Friend, and Colleague — this is a testament to the meaningful impact she contributed to her beloved Chicago, and her unwavering love and commitment to empowering women, victims of violence, children at risk—and bringing light, love, and positive change to everything she touched.
